"Sanitation Enhances Quality of Life"

4th South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN IV)

The South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN), a government led biennial convention held on a rotational basis in each country, is a platform for dialogue and influence created by the governments of South Asian Countries to review the progress made in the area of Sanitation.  The SACOSAN process would help to generate political will to narrow the gap in Sanitation access and usage.
 
They are intended to develop a Regional Agenda on Sanitation, enabling the learning from experiences and setting forth action for the future. The objectives of such conferences are to accelerate the progress of sanitation and hygiene in South Asia and to enhance quality of life of the people. In addition it will contribute to reaching targets of the Millennium Development Goals and the commitments made in the World Summit on Sustainable Development. Commencing from 2003 three countries namely Bangladesh, Pakistan and India had their turn of hosting the conference.

Sri Lanka is proud to announce that the next SACOSAN  will be hosted by Sri Lanka in 2011 4-8 April in Colombo.

Objectives of SACOSAN Process 

The overall goal of the  SACOSAN process was to accelerate the progress of sanitation and hygiene work in the South Asia so as to enhance its peoples’ quality of life in fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals and the commitments made in the World Summit on Sustainable Development.

Conference Objectives

  • To review progress made in implementation of the Delhi Declaration  of the 3rd South Asian Conference on Sanitation (held in 2008 in India).
  • To reiterate political commitment in each country of the region for furthering the sanitation agenda.
  • To facilitate development of country-specific as well as regional frameworks for sanitation.
  • To share experiences and lessons learnt in sanitation and hygiene promotion
  • To increase outreach of sanitation agenda in the region

Sri Lankan Organization for SACOSAN IV

The Ministry of Water Supply & Drainage (My of WS&D) as the focal agency in Sri Lanka has formed the National Steering Committee (NSC) with  other partners in the Government, UN agencies, NGOs, INGOs and Private Sector.

Country Papers

Paper Submission

Papers for consideration on the Conference themes may be sent by individuals/organizations.

The full length paper (maximum 10 pages of A4 size, single space, font-Times New Roman, size-12pts and one inches margin on all the sides) with an abstract of maximum 500 words using MS Office Word Format, clearly mentioning the title of the paper and sub-theme addressed, along with a brief curriculum (maximum three A-4 pages) has to be sent by November 30,  2010.

Short-listed authors would be notified by December 31, 2010.

Poster Submission

Individuals/Organizations desiring to present Posters on the Conference themes, may send an abstract of the posters (maximum 02 pages of A4 size, single space, font-Times New Roman, size-12pts and one inches margin on all the sides, using MS Office Word Format), clearly mentioning the title of the Poster and sub-theme addressed, along with a brief curriculum vitae (maximum three A-4 pages) by November 30, 2010. Short-listed poster presenters would be notified by December 31, 2010.

For poster presentation, poster panels of size 6’*4’ will be provided

Exhibition on Sanitation

Individuals/Organizations desiring to participate in the Sanitation Exhibition, related to the themes, may send a Concept Note for the exhibition (maximum 02 pages of A4 size, single space, font-Times New Roman, size-12pts and one inches margin on all the sides, using MS Office Word Format), clearly mentioning the title for the exhibition, along with a profile of the organization willing to participate as Exhibitor (with a passport size photograph of the head of the organization) by November 30, 2010. Short-listed exhibitors would be notified by December 31, 2010

For exhibition on sanitation, enclosures of size 3m*3m, with basic facilities will be provided.

Please Note: The submission of the Paper/Poster and participation in Exhibition on Sanitation is only through the focal point for the SACOSAN in the respective countries. The list of the focal points in charge of Sanitation in South Asian Countries with address will be published in this site in due course.
