Water Safety Plan Advisory Unit and WSP Unit, Development Section of NWSDB organized a Water Safety Plan Advocacy workshop on 29th of July 2020 at the Water’s Edge Hotel to share the External Formal auditing outcomes and to convey the way forward of WSP proceedings to the management. The event was glamour with the publication launch of Water Safety Plan country report on ‘A journey toward safe drinking water for all ‘. The report showcases the outcomes of WSP journey in Sri Lanka.

The secretary, Dr. Piyathbandu Wickrama to the Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply & Housing Facilities, WHO representatives as the funding agency for the External Formal Audits and the Advocacy programme, chairman Mr. Nishantha Ranathunga of NWSDB, the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) providing auditors for External formal audits, members of the WSP teams of all RSCs participated and shared the knowledge at this session.

NWSDB intends to consider allocating sufficient budget and action plan in their annual Implementation Plan to execute the work related to WSP operations in 2020 /2021.

National Water Supply & Drainage Board has invited ADB/JICA/World Bank on 27/05/2020 to have an initial discussion on possible future funding assistance for the proposed projects in line with the National Water Supply & Drainage Board Master plan. Subsequently separate detailed discussions were arranged with the donors and such detailed discussion with JICA was held on 17/06/2020 under the chairmanship of Mr. Nishantha Ranatunga (Chairman NWS&DB).

Mr. Fusato – Chief Representative of JICA Sri Lanka office and Ms. Rie Tomita and Mr. M.G. Hemachandra have been participated for the meeting representing the JICA. General Manager and other relevant in the Top Management of NWS&DB have also participated.

Water Supply Scheme for Industrial Estate at Welioya, has been successfully completed and handed over to the Ministry of Industry and Supply Chain Management on 21.04.2020.

Total cost of the Water Supply Scheme is Rs 83.3. Million (Source of the Fund- Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, Ministry of Industry and Supply Chain Management).

The main components of this project comprises;

I. Construction of four no of boreholes (Ground Water Source)

II. Construction of 100m³ Capacity Ground Reservoir, Pump House and 40m³ Ferro cement Elevated Water Tower

III. Supply, Delivery and laying of uPVC/DI Pipes, Fittings Valves and Specials.

IV. Supply and Installation of M&E Equipment and Accessories for Industrial Estate at Welioya

Thanks to DGM (North), AGM (N), Staffs & work crew for their committed works throughout the project period and special thanks for the successful completion and handed over of the Water Supply Scheme during the prevailing COVID 19 Pandemic period.
