Gampaha Attanagalla Minuwangoda Integrated Water Supply Project Handed Over to the Public

A significant water supply project has been completed in Sri Lanka's most populous district, Gampaha. It aims to provide clean drinking water to 443 Grama Niladhari (GN) divisions across the Gampaha, Attanagalla, Minuwangoda, Mahara, and Mirigama Divisional Secretariats.

The total cost of the project was $225.5 million, funded by a loan from the China Development Bank and financial support from the Government of Sri Lanka. This urban development initiative was launched to improve sanitation and ensure a reliable, high-pressure supply of safe drinking water for residents who previously experienced low-pressure or inadequate water access.

The project was officially handed over to the public on September 18, 2025, at the Basnagoda Reservoir premises. The event was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Qi Zhenhong, and the Minister of Urban Development, Construction, and Housing, Anura Karunathilaka.

Several other notable figures attended the ceremony, including Deputy Minister of Housing T.B. Sarath, Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe, Member of Parliament Ashoka Ranwala, Gampaha District MPs Ruwanthilaka Jayakodi and Upul Abeywickrama, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development, Construction and Housing M.M. Naimudeen, Chairman of the Water Supply and Drainage Board Engineer Chandana Bandara, and General Manager Engineer T. Barathidasan. High-ranking officials and local residents were also present to mark this important occasion.
