The RSC- Western Production (RSC-WP) currently operates and maintains Nine (09) drinking Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) across Western Province at various locations namely at Ambatale, Labugama, Kalatuwawa, Biyagama, Bambukuliya, Karasnagala, Kandana, Kethhena and Nawagamuwa (Chico), of which Ambatale WTP is the largest facility producing nearly 550,000 m3/day. RSC – Western Production currently produces nearly 1.3 million cubic meters of drinking water per day which is more than 50% of the total production of NWSDB per day.
DGM is the Head of the RSC who is supported by AGM and Operation and Maintenance Managers report to the DGM through the AGM. All RSC functions are monitored and assisted with coordination of by the Additional General Manager for Western Zone stationed at the Head Office (HO) at Ratmalana.
The RSC Western production caters drinking water to Colombo, Gampaha and part of the Kalutara districts. Water is being distributed through Three (03) RSCs called Western Central, Western North and Western South. The operation and maintenance activities of RSC-WP are divided among four managers (Manager- Operation, Manager-Kandana, Manager – Biyagama, Manager -Maintenance) to ensure a safe and uninterrupted supply of water.
Three water treatment plants namely Ambatale and, Biyagama Bambukuliya have acquired ISO 9001-2015 Quality Management System certification and annual surveillance audits for compliance are conducted by SLSI. Laboratories at Amabatale, Biyagama and Kandana have acquired ISO 17025 -2017 lab accreditation certification and annual surveillance audits for compliance are conducted by SLAB.
